Aston Villa confirm key man has signed new deal
Match-winner Matty Cash has given Villa further boost by signing a new deal with the club.
The right-back, scorer of the only goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Manchester City, has agreed a contract through to 2029 with the option of a further year.
Cash has been among Villa’s most consistent performers this season and has been rewarded with an improved deal.
The 29-year-old has made nearly 200 appearances for the club since joining from Nottingham Forest for an initial £14million in the summer of 2020 and been a regular in Unai Emery’s teams which qualified for Europe the past three seasons.
Speaking about his time at Villa earlier this month, Cash said: "I have a great connection (with the fans). I try and give my best every week for the club. Sometimes they like me, sometimes they don't. That's part of football!
"As a player you just have to work hard and it is a huge honour to play for such a big club. Hopefully for many more years I can stay here.
"I just try to build relationships, do my best and hopefully the fans can appreciate it."
Cash’s goal against City was his second in the Premier League this term, after he also scored in last month’s 1-1 draw at Sunderland.
Villa are also close to agreeing a contract extension with captain John McGinn while talks are also ongoing with the representatives of Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres and Morgan Rogers over new deals.
