Angry Ryan Mason explains Ipswich game plan and makes 'lack of belief' claim after conceding late winner
An angry Ryan Mason insists his West Brom players did not have the belief needed to go and win at Ipswich - after they conceded late at Portman Road.
In Albion's third game of a busy week - they went to East Anglia and frustrated the home side.
Mason's side had a lack of chances but as the game ticked in the final ten minutes, it looked as though they had done enough to secure a goalless draw.
But a mistake from Josh Griffiths led to Jack Clarke's late winner.
Throughout the game, Albion again failed to create chances and had just one shot on target, an Isaac Price header that came in the dying moments of the game.
A visibly angry Mason told Sky Sports that he isn't sure whether his players actually believed they could win the game against Tractor Boys.
He said: "I'm disappointed, angry, there is so many emotions.
"The nature of how we conceded is extremely disappointed, more than that I though in the second half we grew into the game, but I don't know whether they believed we could win the game.
"They were there for the taking, but we lacked a bit in the final third. We need a bit of belief to win games at this level.
"That is my job, that is why I am here. We grew into the game but never really caused a great deal of trouble to them and we need to work on it.
"We lost creativity in the summer, but we need to continue to work with players and help as much as possible, that is the job of me and of my staff.
"We know what we need to improve on and that element of the game."
The late goal saw Griffiths play a poor pass into Alex Mowatt who was quickly dispossessed.
It looked as though Griffiths had recovered with a save before Clarke hammered in the re-bound.
On the mistake, Mason added: "It happens, we had a game plan coming here with a quick turnaround from Wednesday.
"It was not our normal way of playing but we felt we could nullify, but the goal went against that.
"It is a learning curve, we have to learn from those moments and make sure it doesn't happen again."
