Defender close to agreeing new Aston Villa deal
Matty Cash is poised to become the latest player to agree a new deal at Villa.
The 28-year-old right-back is close to signing a contract which runs to 2029, with the option of a further year.
Cash’s existing deal expires in 2027 but he is set to be rewarded for his impressive performances this season, with a verbal agreement over new terms now in place.
The Poland international has made 191 appearances in all competitions since joining from Nottingham Forest for an initial £14million in 2020 and retains the trust of boss Unai Emery.
“He is being consistent,” said the Spaniard after Cash played a starring role in Villa’s winning goal at Tottenham on Sunday.
“Sometimes he struggled physically in matches in a row and got injured, but he is now keeping well.
“Not injured, consistent and in 90 minutes he is being confident and giving us confidence. I am not watching him in the minute 70 or 80. It’s fantastic how he is getting the balance himself.”
Skipper John McGinn is also close to agreeing a new contract with Villa working to secure the long-term futures of key players.
Boubacar Kamara, Lucas Digne and Tyrone Mings have all signed new deals in recent months, with Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres among those who have also held discussions over fresh terms.
Villa are also prepared to hand Morgan Rogers an improved contract despite him only signing a deal through to 2030 last November.
Rogers scored his first goal of the season for the club in Sunday’s win.
