Ryan Mason makes 'mentality' point as West Brom enter another hectic week
Ryan Mason has warned Albion must find the mentality to deal with the Championship’s hectic schedule as the season steps up a gear.
The Baggies are back in action when they host Preston on Saturday, the first of six matches in the space of three weeks before the November international break.
Albion suffered their heaviest defeat of Mason’s reign when they went down 3-0 at Millwall last time out, a match which took place less than 72 hours after they won 1-0 at Norwich.
Mason declared the quick turnaround “absolutely no excuse” for the performance at The Den and says players must get used to the churn, with games now set to come thick and fast and the fixture computer doing his team few favours.
The Baggies play away at Watford and Ipswich inside the space of 72 hours next week.
Mason said: “There’s no excuse. Absolutely no excuse.
"It's a mentality that it's down to me to try and improve on, to try and instil that.
“If you want to play at the top level and aspire to be at the top level you have a game every single three days, probably with more travel.
“I felt it as a player, you travel overseas, you get on a plane for four hours, you come back and that's part of the game.
"Like you say, we've got it another two times. We go to Watford and Ipswich and then I think we've got QPR and Southampton (away) in the space of two or three days.
"So we need to learn from it, we need to be better, we need to avoid this type of performance again because if you perform like this in every element of the game, you don't get anything from it."
