Ryan Mason explains plan for returning West Brom duo

Ryan Mason has promised Albion won’t take any undue risks with Daryl Dike and Tammer Bany as both near an Albion return.

The duo have been back in training since the end of last month and Mason and his coaching staff will consider giving them game-time with the under-21s to build match fitness.

Bany has been limited to just four substitute appearances since joining from Randers for £3.3million in January and not featured at all this season due to a hamstring injury.

Dike, meanwhile, has been struggling with a thigh problem sustained during pre-season.

The 25-year-old has made only 40 league appearances since joining the Baggies in January, 2022.

Asked if it was possible the pair might feature for the U21s, who take on Exeter in the Premier League Cup on Wednesday, Mason replied: "We'll see what's best for them, whether that's training with a group or whether that's game time.

"They've not just had a long time out recently. You look at their history since they've been at the club. They've had a long time out.

"We need to respect that because we're going to need them, certainly. I think you've seen with Josh (Maja). Josh has obviously had a very, very long time out as well.

"We need these players. We've not got a big squad. We need to try and keep everyone available or get as many people available as possible. We'll decide what's best for all the injured players.”

Albion are back in action on Saturday when they host Preston at The Hawthorns, looking to rebound from the hugely disappointing 3-0 defeat at Millwall prior to the international break, their worst display of Mason’s reign to date.

The Baggies sit seventh in the Championship table, having lost three of their last five matches.
