Jamie racks up the highest break of the season so far - snooker round-up

The Grandmasters Handicap kicked off in stunning fashion this week with as Jamie Brown made the highest break of the season in Staffs & West Midlands Snooker League competitions.

There was no stopping Brown on the night as he went on to win 3-0, including that season-high 125 break, where he joined Chris Ward, Simon Hickman, John Spencer, Colin Reade and Neil Beckley in the next round.

The Foursomes Handicap also had some first-round matches, which included Danny Ludgate continuing his excellent start to the season as he made an 81 break to send himself and Jamie Harris through to the next round, along with Luis Ferraro & Rhys Lampitt, Richard Davies & Ashley Wall, Callum Wraight & Billy Lanham, Peter Blower & Paul Evans and Stuart Barker & Wayne Dwyer.

In the league, Wednesfield Cons remain top of Division One despite falling to a 3-2 defeat at Shifnal B.

Andy Price made a 40 break as the league leaders took the opening frame, before Steve Powell made it 1-1, inflicting Ryan Hamilton's first defeat of the season.

Oliver Spooner maintained his unbeaten start to the season to put Wednesfield 2-1 up, but Nick Brown forced a deciding frame, which Aaron Sparkes took for Shifnal.

Defending champions Hotshots failed to take advantage of Wednesfield's slip-up, as they lost at last year's Division Two champions, Poets Corne

Richard Parker put Poets one up and it looked like it would be 2-0 as Lee Cross made a 58 break, the highest in Division One this week, only for Callum Downing to take the frame on the black to make it 1-

Karl Ashmore put Hotshots 2-1 up, but Darren Millard made it 2-2 before Pommy Kang took Paul Deaville's unbeaten record to win the match for Poets.

Elsewhere in Division One, there were wins for Landywood B, Hotshots B, Shifnal, Baggeridge Social Club. Landywood A and Stafford Institute A.

First hosted third in Division Two, where Bilston Bowling Club remain top of the division despite suffering a 4-1 defeat against Bilston Sports & Social.

The night started well for the Bowling Club as Wayne Bentley made it six from six this season to take the opening frame, but Graham Cole made breaks of 35 and 32 to level the match.

This swung the momentum in favour of Bilston Sports as Michael Smith, Steven Giles and Stewart Humphries ensured the win. 

Beaconsfield are in second place after defeating Townsend Social 3-2, but the match was lit up by an excellent 70 break from Townsend's Jason Jenns.

Bilston Bowling Club B moved to the top of Division Three after defeating Old Hall 4-1.

Old Hall's Adrian Holmes continued his perfect start to the season, moving one clear in the most wins race, but Bilston came out on top as Nik Smith, Mick Reece, Rob Reece and Paul Lacy secured the win, with Smith making a break of 37.

There were also some first-round matches in the Pairs Medley this week, with Jason Burke & Mike Harper and Andrew Docherty & Josh Meese winning through, while Adam Hartshorn kicked off this season's Six Reds Handicap with a 4-0 victory over Michael Lane.
