Three second half goals saw the Scholars hit the summit as they eventually overpowered their visitors.

After a goal-less first half, Todd Ferrier pounced within seconds of the restart to break the deadlock, with former Newcastle man Ty Webster then doubling the advantage with a curling effort seven minutes later.

Joey Butlin added further gloss with a stoppage time strike as the Scholars recorded their sixth win in nine matches.

Stafford Rangers missed the chance to close the gap on the top five as they paid the price for a nightmare start against Witton Albion.

The Boro found themselves 3-0 down after just 15 minutes at Marston Road with Tom Hoyle twice on the mark for the visitors, before Joe Duckworth also found the net.

But the home side fought back in the second half, Scott Wara and Dan Cockerline both scoring to reduce the deficit.

Cockerline then had a golden chance to square things up when his team were awarded a penalty but saw his spot-kicks saved by Morgan Sutton as Witton clung on for the victory.

Struggling Sporting Khalsa were also left frustrated as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Shifnal Town.

Khalsa looked to be on course for a welcome win when Chay Tilt put them ahead midway through the second half but Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham netted eight minutes from time to earn the visitors a point.

Dan Lomas scored a late winner for Lichfield City as they claimed a 2-1 victory at Boldmere St Michaels to keep up with the Midlands Division pacesetters.

Jack Edwards had fired the visitors into an early lead which was then cancelled out by Keireice Cunningham, before Lomas had the final say.
