Kanu, who is on loan from Championship side Charlton Athletic, scored three times in four appearances last month.

The 20-year-old opened his goal scoring account for the Saddlers in a 1-0 win over Chesterfield, before netting an equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town seven days later.

He extended his tally by scoring for the third successive game in a 4-2 triumph over Tranmere Rovers at Bescot, but was forced off with a calf issue in their comeback win against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

The Sierra Leone striker has been nominated alongside Swindon Town striker Aaron Drinan, who is the leading scorer in the division with eight goals.

Former Walsall captain Donervon Daniels, who is now at newly-promoted Oldham Athletic, is also among the nominees.

Fleetwood Town midfielder Jordan Davies, Chesterfield wide man Liam Mandeville and Bristol Rovers attacker Fabrizio Cavegn complete the six-man shortlist.

The award is voted by supporters, who can vote via the PFA website.
