A former West Brom defender believes Ryan Mason's step into management at Albion has been perfect timing for him and the club.

Albion moved back into the top six on Friday night with a draw over Leicester - with the Foxes grabbing a stoppage time own goal courtesy of Nat Phillips turning through his own net.

It was a game Albion should have really won - and if they had done they could have climbed as high as second in the table.

It has been a solid start for Mason in his first permanent managerial job - after departing Tottenham in the summer to take up the post at the Baggies.

He has delivered eleven points from the first seven games - and he has been hailed by a former Albion defender for his impact at the club in the first few months of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Curtis Davies also stated that he believes the move has come at the right time - not just for Mason but for the club as well.

He said: "I think he has been impressive.

"He has really come to West Brom just at the right time. The expectation of West Brom fans in the Championship has lowered a bit.

"Every time they are in the Championship in recent years, they have expected promotion.

"But it hasn't happened with the way they have spent and had to sell - now there is a bit more realism.

"Because of the start he has had people are now thinking they have got a chance.

"He has done a fantastic job considering it is his first job.

"He has built, kept a few seniors and has a few allies at the club around him."
