West Brom £15m flop who failed at Albion tipped for international recall after hat-trick as Scotland hunt World Cup

Anytime Oliver Burke's name appears in the news - his £15m failed move to West Brom is brought into the Albion spotlight.

It is a well told story that Burke massively underachieved at Albion - after they forked out a heavy price for him.

Whether he was overpriced is one debate - but it was clear he failed to live up to his billing.

Since then he has moved to Spain, Celtic, Germany and had spells back in the Championship.

In the summer he made the move from Werder Bremen to Union Berlin and it appears the switch has sparked Burke's best scoring form in years - at the age of 28.

The Nottingham Forest academy graduate has been earning credit for his appearances in the first five domestic games of the season.

But he hit the headlines earlier this week when he bagged a hat-trick in Berlin's 4-3 win on the road at Eintracht Frankfurt.

It seems his stock has always been a bit higher in Germany than it has in England, and certainly West Brom - and now it has risen.

And following the plaudits and headlines - there have been calls now for a potential Scotland recall ahead of the World Cup, five years after the last of his 13 caps.

European football expert Andy Brassell said on talkSPORT's Trans Euro Express podcast something that won't resonate with Albion fans, following Burke's spell at the club.

He said: “If you had never seen Oliver Burke play and you didn't have any preconceptions about him, you would have looked at this and you would have thought, this guy is incredible.

“It's a brilliantly taken hat-trick, all on the counter-attack as well. You forget what incredible pace he's got.

“He started out as a wide player in his early days at Nottingham Forest, of course.

“And I don't know if we need a few more games like this, but at what point do we get to the point where Scotland can't not pick him?”
