Non-league round-up: Halesowen hit six to progress in FA Cup, as Chasetown bow out
Halesowen romped to a resounding 6-1 victory over Grimsby Borough in their FA Cup second qualifying round replay at the Grove.
Jason Cowley's hat-trick, a brace from Walsall loanee Charlie Wragg and a solitary strike from Kyle Finn helped propel them into the next round where they'll face Aveley at home.
Cowley scored the first of his treble inside the opening eight games, before Dayle Southwell levelled for the visitors on the half-hour mark.
It would only prove to be a temporary reprieve, as goals from Finn and Wragg provided Halesowen with a two-goal cushion at the break.
Halesowen sealed the deal after the interval, with Cowley scoring twice more and Wragg completing his double with a late finish.
Meanwhile, Chasetown suffered penalty shoot-out heartbreak after a 1-1 draw in their replay at Banbury United.
Chasetown made the ideal start when Luke Yates slotted them into the lead after nine minutes, but Luke Stokoe got their Oxfordshire hosts back on level terms in the 28th-minute.
That was how it stayed after 120 minutes of football until the Scholars were condemned to a 5-3 defeat in the shoot-out.
Hednesford Town made it back-to-back wins with a 2-0 success at Leek Town in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Ollie Harrison delivered the breakthrough exactly on the half-hour when he stabbed home Chris Hussey's corner at the back post.
Leek threatened after the break as Hednesford goalkeeper Tony Breeden was forced into a string of saves.
Breeden produced an excellent finger tip stop to flick Lucas Weir's strike on to the crossbar, before Rose doubled the Pitmen's lead 11 minutes from time.
Fresh from his four-goal haul in the 7-0 demolition of Coleshill Town in the FA Cup on Saturday, Rose confidently lobbed Leek goalkeeper Dino Visser to keep Hednesford within two points of the league summit.
Rushall Olympic extended their winless run in the league to five games after falling to a 2-0 defeat against Hyde United at Dales Lane.
Hyde hit the front through Jack Redshaw three minutes into the second half when he smashed into the roof of the net after an almighty goalmouth scramble.
Redshaw bagged a quickfire brace just three minutes later with a rocket which consigned the Pics to back-to-back home defeats.
That latest setback saw Ian Long's side drop three places to ninth in the league rankings.
