Patel, two GKs again and a dead bird: Four things you may have missed from West Brom defeat to Derby

It was a sucker punch that did Albion - as they fell to yet another defeat to Derby County.

The Rams remained Albion's bogey team and John Eustace their bogey manager. Albion dominated the game but ultimately fell short as Andi Weimann struck late on against his former club to hand Derby the win.

Jonny Drury looks at a few things you have missed from the game:

Double GKs but only one youngster?

Albion did have four players out still, like against Stoke, but more new faces have come through the door.

All eyes were going to be on the starting line-up, but the squad through up questions again.

New signings were in but despite having youngsters who have been involved this season - Mason went for two goalkeepers again.

It was strange because the likes of Alex Williams and Cole Deeming didn't make the squad - who you/d have predicted would be on the bench.

Safe standing difference again

It has been pointed out already by Albion fans - but the safe standing changes we have had in the first three games is making a real difference to the atmosphere.

It was always going to be heightened today - with the 125th celebrations but it has been class since the start of the campaign.

It has been noticed by the players - with Alex Mowatt referencing it in the programme before the game.

The instillation of it is the main factor behind the atmosphere, along with the displays on the pitch.

But the small change has made a big difference. Lets hope more come in the future.

Patel back in the building

It is to be expected, but owner Shilen Patel was at The Hawthorns for the special anniversary celebrations.

It kind of goes without saying that you expect him to be here - but to make it over for an historic occasion, so soon after spending a lengthy amount of time in the UK is another great gesture from the chairman and owner.

He quickly surpassed the number of visitors Lai made - but it feels like every other game he is here at the moment.

It would be very easy for the Albion fans to take it for granted - and even though not as much fuss is made about it now, it is still very much appreciated.

His results record leave a bit to be desired though.

Bird stops play

We've seen cats and other animals run onto pitches. A local level, the odd dog and I'm sure other things.

But the reason for a stoppage in the second half at Th Hawthorns was - dead bird stops play.

If you weren't at the game you won't believe it but the referee stopped play after what looked like a pigeon dropped a dead bird onto the playing surface.

It gave the players a chance to have a break and Albion to make a change - but it was a bizarre thing that I doubt you will see in the ground or any ground again for a while!
