Snooker round-up: Hotshots A pick up where they left off
Hotshots A started the new season as they ended the last one with a comfortable victory over Hotshots B in the West Midlands Snooker League.
After winning last year's competition by 13 points, they won 4-1 in the opening round of the new season.
Paul Deaville, with an 88 break, took care of the opening frame. Callum Downing then made it 2-0 with a 53 break. Hasib Hussain pulled one back for Hotshots B, but Faizan Mohammed and Jamie Brown sealed the win.
Last season’s runners-up, Poets Corner, have moved venues to become Landywood B, and a 41 break from Riley Parsons accounted for the opening frame as they visited a strong Shifnal A side.
That was the only high point though as Shifnal swept through the rest of the frames as wins for Matthew Davies, Keith Price and Michael Brezwyn secured the match before a black ball victory for Tom Maxfield made it 4-1 to Shifnal.
Newly promoted Poets Corner A showed the fight they will need in the top flight as they faced Baggeridge Social Club - but ultimately lost 3-2. The first two frames were shared as Pommy Kang won for Poets before David Hall levelled proceedings.
Darren Millard made a 40 break to put Poets 2-1 in front, but Baggeridge took the match thanks to Maria Catalano and Jamie Spence.
Stafford Institute A enjoyed an excellent away win after defeating Charlemont BC 3-2.
Their B team could not match their A team as they went down 4-1 to Sedgley WMC. The highlight for Sedgley was Stuart Pritchard making breaks of 32 and 30 in taking his frame, and further successes from Richard Davies, Richard Lampitt, and Shaun Edwards put Sedgley 4-0 up.
Steve Holland took the final frame to get a consolation, which made it 4-1. Elsewhere in division one, newly promoted Pennfields defeated Landywood C 4-1 and Sedgley Ex Service enjoyed a narrow 3-2 victory over Wednesfield Cons.
Townsend Social are the early leaders of Division Two due to playing the extra match. They have beaten Poets Corner E 4-1 but lost to Charlemont B.
Steven Garner made a 38 break as he and Craig Rooker put Poets Corner B 2-0 up at Codsall Firs. However, a black ball victory for Daniel Roberts, coupled with a win on debut Kevin Saunders set up a deciding frame win for Codsall’s Steve Heath.
Beaconsfield enjoyed a debut win at promoted Essington winning 3-2, while Landywood D got the better of Landywood E.
