’There is a buzz around the club’ - Gornal Athletic look to continue unbeaten start to campaign
With everyone “singing off the same hymn sheet”, Gornal Athletic have enjoyed an impressive unbeaten start to the season.
Stuart How’s side dropped points in the Midland League Division One for the first time midweek through their 3-3 draw with AFC Bridgnorth.
Sitting clear by seven points at the top of the standings, Gornal host AFC North Kilworth tomorrow looking to stretch their unbeaten run to 11 matches.
“It’s been a great start,” said boss How. “I am a little bit disappointed in the manner that we conceded our first points on Tuesday, but on the whole, we are delighted with the start.

“I don’t think we quite targeted this many points. We had a look at last season and said if we were in and around the 33 point mark after 15 games then you would be right in the leading pack.
“And with five games to go until that, we probably wouldn’t settle for that. In the next five games we would like to think that we can go beyond that and kick on.
“From the people running the club to the staff and players, everybody is singing off the same hymn sheet.
“There is a real buzz around the club and a togetherness. I think those factors have led to a really encouraging start.
“The gates are creeping up too. Hopefully we can keep giving the fans their money’s worth.”
However, despite their remarkable form to begin the new campaign, boss How won’t allow himself to get carried away.
He continued: “I think it’s important that we don’t look too far in front.
“The midweek result can work as a positive for us. You are always going to have that complacency at some stage when you are winning games, so hopefully it has come at the stage where we can remind the players that we are not invincible.
“We have got some flaws and need to bounce back.”
