Walsall sign German-born defender on a season-long loan from Stockport County
Walsall have completed the signing of Stockport County defender Jid Okeke on a season-long loan.
Okeke, who was born in Germany, can play as a full-back or wing-back, and can operate on either side.
The 20-year-old has made three appearances for Stockport in all competitions and had loan spells with Rochdale in National League and South Shields in the National League North last term.
The former St Pauli youth player also enjoyed a temporary stint alongside Walsall defender at Chester in 2023-24 and scored once on loan at Hereford in the same campaign.
Okeke: 'I don't mind playing anywhere"
"The gaffer called me and spoke to me about the club, and how happy he is to have mere here so I can't wait to prove his point," Okeke said.
"I'm very attacking, skilful, fast and very hard working. We play with wing-backs so that's what I like.
"I don't mind playing anywhere so I want to give my all."
Okeke becomes the Saddlers' 13th signing of the summer transfer window - excluding Jonny Stuttle who was recalled by AFC Bournemouth.
Sadler: 'He can play as a left and right wing-back'
Mat Sadler has been on the market for another wing-back since Mason Hancock was ruled out for "four to six months" with a dislocated knee.
"Jid is a very attacking minded wing-back. He can play as a left wing-back and right wing-back, he likes to take his man on and likes to be aggressive in the final third," Sadler said.
"He had a good, productive loan at Rochdale, which went well for him, and he also showed that he's capable of in the two Carabao Cup games for Stockport earlier in the season."
"We look forward to seeing him and we thank everyone at Stockport for helping us along with the deal. He's a very exciting and attacking young player."
