Aston Villa working to complete midfielder signing after deal agreed
Villa are closing in on the signing of Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott in a £35million deal.
The 22-year-old is due to undergo a medical after the two clubs reached agreement on the terms of the transfer.
Elliott will join Villa on an initial season-long loan, with the deal including an obligation to buy which will be triggered next summer.
Villa have been operating under strict financial restraints but have been able to reach an agreement which allows them to sign Elliott and remain compliant with Uefa’s spending regulations.
Elliott, who has seen his opportunities with the Reds limited since Arne Slot’s arrival as boss last year, has been available all summer and held talks over a move to RB Leipzig last month.
But it is Villa who are now poised to secure the signature of a player named best of the tournament at the recent European under-21 Championships.
Elliott is expected to be one of three deadline day arrivals at Villa. Defender Victor Lindelof has joined on a free transfer, while Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is on course to arrive on loan.
