Charlie Lakin scored the match-winner in the 52nd-minute to inspire the Saddlers to back-to-back victories in League Two.

Evan Weir was forced off with a knock midway into the first half and Sadler admitted that it took his team a while to readjust.

"I thought we showed three or four different sides to us in the game which is really important," Sadler said.

"For the first 35 minutes especially, we showed that in possession stuff. We were moving the ball from side to side, creating overloads and getting into some really good positions.

"Charlie [Lakin] had a couple of good chances and we were very much on top in that first half. The change [Evan Weir going off due to injury] just jolted us in terms of the new relationships on the pitch.

Jamie Jellis had to come off at half-time, after nursing a groin issue over the past fortnight.

"Credit to Priestley coming on in that situation, I thought he did brilliantly, but it takes a bit of time to adapt to it."

Jamie Jellis has also been nursing a groin issue and was replaced at half-time by Blackpool loanee Ryan Finnigan.

Sadler does not anticipate either of them to be serious and is optimistic that they will be available when Chesterfield visit Bescot next Saturday.

"I'm not sure about Tuesday, I don't think Evan's is long-term. I don't know for sure but I think he will be available for Saturday next week," he revealed.

"There was just a bad gash and then it started to swell. I hope it's ok and just an impact.

"Jamie has been nursing an issue in his groin for the last two weeks and he was touch and go to start today.

"Credit to him, he grinded through it and if we had to make a change before half-time then that could've really hampered us.

"He managed to stay on, get through that half and enabled us to make that change at half-time."

Charlie Lakin had the two best chances for Walsall in the first half, drawing an excellent finger tip save from Craig MacGillivray, before flashing a half-volley over.

His goal arrived after the break, but Walsall had to weather a storm, as the Dons went in search of an equaliser.

Myles Roberts was forced into a pair of excellent saves to deny Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Alex Gilbey in the second half to preserve his second clean sheet in a row.

"Going in at half-time, you know you're going to come under the cosh at some point in the game," he continued.

"So when we scored our goal, brilliant on the transition and we started the second half really well.

"It set us up for what we knew was going to be a backs to the wall job. Then we showed a different side to us with that ability to defend our box incredibly.

"Probably felt like we got a bit too deep and I did change things around a couple of times in that spell just to get more pressure on the ball."
