Aston Villa's push for new signings expected to go to the wire

Villa are preparing to take their push for signings right to the wire as they continue to eye loan moves for Marco Asensio and Nicolas Jackson.

Both deals hinge on persuading the pair’s respective parent clubs, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, to agree deals which fit within the financial constraints Villa are operating.

Talks over a deal for Asensio have been ongoing for several weeks and the hope is of a repeat of January, when a loan deal for the second half of last season was struck during the final days of the window.

The 29-year-old is considered surplus to requirements at PSG but has so far been unable to secure a move away.

Jackson is in a similar situation at Chelsea, who are for the moment continuing to play hardball over a player they value at £80million.

Suitors have been told any loan deal must include an obligation to buy next summer. The loan fee of £10m currently being demanded is also beyond Villa’s means.

Their spending has been restricted all summer due to the need to comply with Uefa’s financial fair play rules, with Evann Guessand the only “big money” addition to date.

Villa have, meanwhile, turned down a loan offer from Stuttgart for Emi Buendia.

The Bundesliga club wanted to sign the playmaker for the season, in a deal which would also have included an option to buy.

But the terms of the deal were not acceptable to Villa, who turned it down.

Despite the rejection, Buendia’s future remains uncertain heading into the final days of the transfer window.

Villa will now consider any further offers they receive for the player before Monday’s deadline.
