Non-league round-up: Late leveller as more than 3,000 watch dramatic derby draw
Substitute Aaron Bishop headed a late equaliser to earn 10-man Rushall Olympic a dramatic derby draw at Hednesford Town.
Bishop flicked home Carter Lycett’s 85th minute cross to preserve the Pics unbeaten start to the Northern Premier League season in front of a 3,162-strong Bank Holiday crowd at Keys Park.
The visiting team had seen Mitch Botfield shown a straight red card just minutes before, following an altercation with Pitmen midfielder Joss Labadie.
Issues with a new digital ticketing system led to kick-off being delayed by 15 minutes but it was Hednesford who were quickest out of the blocks, taking the lead when Akheem Rose converted Jamie Jervis’ cross.
When Botfield was dismissed the home side looked in control but it was Bishop and Ian Long's Rushall who had the last word.
There was even later drama at Aggbrough where Ryley Reynolds netted in the sixth minute of stoppage time to earn Kidderminster Harriers a 3-2 win over Leamington.
The visitors, who had been trailing 2-0 thanks to goals from Theo Streete and Jordan Tunnicliffe, appeared to have snatched a share of the spoils when Ethan Hill netted an equaliser in the fifth added minute.
But the match was not yet finished and Reynolds - who had been introduced moments before the leveller - became the home side’s hero when he converted fellow substitute Luke Spokes’ corner as Harriers claimed just their second win of the National League North season.
“I’m pleased with the three points but I’m that frustrated, I couldn’t even celebrate the winner,” said boss Adam Murray. “It is not where we need them to be at the minute.”
In the Southern League Central, it was Stourbridge who came out on the wrong side of a five-goal thriller at Banbury United.
The Glassboys twice came from behind, Jez Abbey and Jenson Sumnall cancelling out two strikes from former Stour man Reece Styche.
But just when it appeared the visitors would be heading home with a well-earned point, James Alabi popped up to win all three for the hosts in stoppage time.
Halesowen Town also had a day to forget as they suffered their first defeat of the season in front of more than 2,000 fans at the Grove.
Visitors Worcester City grasped control of the match in the early stages, Felix Miles scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes.
The Yeltz could find no way back and the result was put beyond doubt when Dan Sweeney netted Worcester’s third late on.
Zidan Sutherland got the winner for Stafford Rangers as they beat Nantwich Town 2-1 in Northern League West.
A second half goal from Luke Yates was enough to earn Chasetown victory at Sporting Khalsa, with Keiron Berry on the mark for Darlaston Town in their 1-1 draw at Shifnal Town.
Goals from Leighton McMenemy and Jack Edwards earned Lichfield City a 2-1 win at home to Sutton Coldfield Town.
