Step 5 & 6 round-up: Lye Town among five teams to progress in FA Vase

Lye Town progressed to the FA Vase second qualifying round after beating Romulus 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.

Alfie Stewart bagged a brace and Luke Sidaway scored to propel Lye into a 3-1 lead seven minutes into the second half, but Romulus scored twice in quick succession to get back on level terms before the hour-mark. 

Matty Saunders restored Lye's lead with what proved to be the winner in the 67th-minute to set-up a home tie against Allscott Heath in the next round.

Brocton also progressed after narrowly avoiding a second half fightback to win 3-2 against Studley. 

They stormed into a 3-0 lead at the break courtesy of goals from Connor Haddaway, Charlie King and Reg Smith. 

Christopher Uwabor and Kyle Moseley reduced the arrears for Studley, but Brocton held on and will host Wellington on September 20. 

Bewdley Town beat Ludlow on penalties after a 1-1 draw and will host Atherstone Town in the next round.

Matthew Hearsey scored the winner on the cusp of half-time to guide Stafford Town to a 1-0 win over Tividale and book a home tie against AFC Bridgnorth who beat AFC Wolverhampton City on penalties.

Danny Munday and Joe Clarke scored in a 2-2 draw in normal time, but Wolverhampton City bowed out 4-3 in the shoot-out.

Wolverhampton Sporting also put their name in the hat with a 1-0 win over Westfields, with Isaiah Beaumont's 61st-minute winner.

Cradley Town were knocked out after losing 4-1 against FC Stratford and Smethwick Rangers were eliminated on penalties following a 3-3 draw against Chelmsley Town.

Wednesfield were also dumped out of the competition after being condemned to a 4-0 drubbing at Hanley Town.

Dudley Town beat Wolverhampton Casuals 2-0 thanks to goals from Harry Crook and Matty Funge and will face Stourport Swifts. 

The Swifts were in league action and emerged with a 2-0 home success over Abbey Hutton United in the Midland Premier Division courtesy of goals from Joshua McKenzie and Leonardo Gouveia. 

In Division One, Gornal Athletic climbed three points clear at the league summit with a 2-1 victory over second-place Sutton United. 

Daniel Hadley's own goal gave Sutton an early lead, but a double in either half from Taylor Homer completed a comeback for Gornal. 

Birmingham OJM ended a run of three successive defeats with a 2-1 home win over Heather St John's with goals coming from Reece Morris and Steven Leslie.
