Kyle Bartley hint, Swift and Birmingham Road: Three things you may have missed in West Brom's Portsmouth draw

Albion were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth - but the result didn't tell the full story.

Albion may have not created enough to win the game - but they will feel hard done by as key decisions went against them.

A strong penalty claim on Aune Heggebo was waved away - before the referee decided against sending off defender Regan Poole when he hauled down the striker who was through on goal.

The protests from Ryan Mason saw him red carded - and Albion were left frustrated as they couldn't find a late winner.

Those were the obvious takeaways from the game - but here are some things you may have missed.

A role for Bartley?

Kyle Bartley was welcomed back to The Hawthorns at half time as he was interviewed on the sidelines in front of the Albion fans.

It was the first time supporters have had a glimpse of the former defender since he announced his retirement from the game earlier this summer.

Discussing the fans and his decision - he also indicated that his time at the club may not be over.

He hinted that he has had discussions with sporting director Andrew Nestor and owner Shilen Patel over a potential position at Albion.

He didn't go into what it may be but we may not have seen the last of Bartley at Albion.

Did you notice Swift?

John Swift returned to Albion a few months after his departure to little reception.

Named in the Pompey side, it was hard to remember much that the former Albion playmaker did in the game if we're honest.

He was certainly given the run around by Mikey Johnston, and was booked for hacking down the Baggies winger in the first half.

There was a smattering of boos when he picked up the ball, but aside from that he was pretty non-existent.

He certainly didn't come close to returning and haunting his former side.

Wrong end success

When Albion get turned around to attack the Birmingham Road End first, it doesn't quite seem right does it?

That is what happened on Saturday and we're not quite sure of the reasoning from the visitors.

Anyway, it does feel a bit off when it happens.

However, when it seems to happen Albion don't really seem to do that well, that is just a feeling rather than a statistic.

In the end they couldn't get over the line, but being turned around and facing the Brummie Road End in the first half may be a bad omen for Albion.

It's going to need a dip into the stats to find out what the record is!
