Walsall sign striker Daniel Kanu on loan from Charlton Athletic
Walsall have moved quickly to replace the recalled Jonny Stuttle by signing striker Daniel Kanu on a season-long loan from Charlton Athletic.
Stuttle returned to parent club AFC Bournemouth today after suffering a knee injury in the Saddlers' 1-0 defeat against Grimsby Town on Tuesday.
And in his place instead will be 20-year-old Kanu, who already has plenty of experience for Charlton with nine goals in 71 appearances.
“I’m really excited to be here and really excited to get going,” Kanu said. “I’ve been in contact with the gaffer here for most of pre-season.
“They presented a really good presentation to me and that really excited me. Not only are they going to help me improve but they’ll help me get games which is what I felt I needed.
“I just can’t wait to get myself out on the pitch and give 110 per cent like I usually do.
“I had to wait a little while but these things happen but I’m really excited to be here, get myself going and get some goals.”
Kanu has also previously had a brief loan spell with Southend United in the National League, scoring four goals in their 5-0 victory over Solihull Moors two years ago.
Head coach Mat Sadler added: “I’m delighted that Charlton have thought of us as the best place for Daniel’s immediate future.
“He’s a striker who’s had good success at a previous loan at Southend and he’s also played and scored goals in League One for them.
"He’s very highly thought within the Charlton set up and someone that I’ve tried to sign on two other occasions so happy that this time the stars aligned and we were able to sign him.
“We’re looking forward to seeing him play. He’s quick, wants to run in behind, wants to stretch teams and he’s got a very good eye for goal and good finishing.
“We look forward to watching him play and we thank everyone at Charlton for their help on this one.”
