Portsmouth set to be without key man for West Brom trip as ex-Baggie to make Hawthorns return

Portsmouth have been dealt a big blow ahead of their trip to West Brom - with forward Callum Lang set for a period on the sidelines.

The forward, who has been a key player for the Fratton Park side, came off injured in their 2-1 defeat to Norwich City on Saturday, which came after a 1-0 opening day win away at Oxford United.

It was Lang's latest injury, having missed the final two months of last season and part of pre-season.

Pompey are still waiting to hear the outcome of a scan on the injury - but it is highly unlikely he will be in contention for the trip to The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho said: "Callum felt his hamstring so we’ll see how it settles down.

"It’s a massive blow to lose him but we’ll look at him.

"I don’t know if it’s a recurrence of a hamstring injury, but it’s a hamstring injury so we’ll see how he gets on with that one.

"I think somebody said to me he’s struggling with his hamstring straightaway, so I shouted on to see if he was okay and he gave it that one (he wasn’t sure) which told me it wasn’t.

"We were focussed on adding in the wide areas anyway and that’s where Callum has been playing."

Elsewhere, former Albion man John Swift is set to make a swift return to The Hawthorns after departing the club back in the summer.

Swift was a regular for Albion across a three year spell - but the club decided against renewing his contract when it came to an end in June.

He was linked with Derby and Stoke - but made a return to his hometown club after spending time with Pompey as a youngster.

He has started the opening two league games - as well as their EFL Cup defeat to Reading and has occupied a deeper position to where he played for Albion - sitting in front of the back four.

And he almost made a quick impression on the Pompey faithful as he went close to snatching a point against Norwich on Saturday - as he rattled the bar in the latter stages of the game.
