A second-half winner from midfielder Roddy McGlinchey sealed the three points for Ian Long's hosts in a tight affair with the Manchester visitors.

The Dales Lane success put the hosts top of the pile having taken 10 points from their first four games. It was a first defeat of the league season for Ashton.

A tight first half saw an Ashton effort rules out for offside before the Pics upped the ante after the interval. Anthony Dwyer lashed just wide and Aaron Bishop had a golden opening well blocked after fine work by Sam Unitt.

The visitors remained a threat as Luca Navarro struck the post with a curling effort on the hour.

It seemed one goal would be enough and former Peterborough youngster McGlinchey made the difference for Long's side as he converted a scrambled effort from six-yards from Carter Lycett's dangerous free-kick delivery with 25 minutes remaining.

Rushall climbed one point above Hednesford Town with the victory as the Pitmen slipped up for the first time this season.

A hat-trick from Prescot Cables' Ben Elliott handed the hosts a convincing first victory of the season in Merseyside.

Gavin Hurren's side, who had started with three wins from three, fell two goals down by the midway point of the first half and failed to recover on their way to defeat. They sit fourth.

Kidderminster Harriers remain unbeaten with a win and two draws to start the National League North campaign having salvaged a late point at home to Oxford City.

Right-back Alex Penny slotted home a cool finish from a corner with just eight minutes left at Aggborough in front of a crowd of more than 2,500.

Adam Murray's side had trailed since the 37th minute. Harriers are ninth having drawn twice since the opening-day victory over Scarborough.

Darlaston Town continued their fine start to the season in Northern Premier West, where there were also wins for Stafford Rangers and Sporting Khalsa.

Darlo made it two wins from three to climb into the top five thanks to first half goals from James Rowland and Jake Collins in Northwich.

Dean Gill's men put in a professional display after the break to take the spoils back to the Black Country.

Khalsa and Stafford are also on six points with two wins and sit sixth and seventh respectively after 1-0 home victories.

Ian Rowe's Khalsa saw off third-placed Nantwich Town 1-0 at Noose Lane, with the winner coming eight minutes into the second half as Andre Landell fired high into the net following excellent wide play by Justice Campbell.

Winless Congleton were beaten at Boro's Marston Road thanks to a goal on the stroke of half-time by Zidan Sutherland.

Stafford, who handed a debut to loan goalkeeper recruit Arron Davies from Port Vale, stood firm in the second half and limited the lowly visitors to very little.

Chasetown fell to a first defeat of the season in Northern Premier West with a 3-2 reverse at Kidsgrove Athletic.

Mark Swann's visitors found themselves 2-0 down early though Luke Yates pulled one back shortly after half-time. The hosts found a third inside the final 20 minutes to put the clash to bed before the Scholars' Alex Bradley's consolation.
