’I feel at home’ - Gavin hurren targeting further success with Hednesford Town
Gavin Hurren is feeling right “at home” at Hednesford Town and is hungry for more success, eying consecutive promotions.
The Pitmen have enjoyed a winning start to life in the Northern Premier League and secured victory in their first home league game in front of more than 2,000 fans on Tuesday.
They welcome winless Workington to Keys Park tomorrow looking to secure a hattrick of victories.
After leading the Pitmen on a remarkable charge to the play-offs last season where they achieved promotion, boss, and former Pitmen player, Hurren is eager to continue their upward trajectory.
He said: “It’s been a tough few years at the club, but from last year and when I walked into the building, there has only been one way that the club was going, and that is up.
“With the club, owners and board of directors, what does success look like? Well, they have different departments with different targets.

“For me, on the pitch we have to assemble a good squad that I think we have, compete, which we are, and finish as high as possible.
“As long as we keep competing and sending the fans home happy then that’s a success, but on a personal perspective we want to be up there and achieving promotions.
“I felt welcomed by everybody when I joined. It was tough in the sense of the fans have expectations.
“But, with what the owners are doing with everybody at the football club and community, we are all working together.
“It’s a really exciting place and I feel at home. It’s a fresh canvas in terms of building the football club.
“Hednesford, from when I was playing there, is a different football club now. The fans haven’t changed but the club has.
“We are building it from scratch and it is really positive. It’s an unbelievable place to be, we have the best owners, and support.”
Despite a winless start to the season for opponents Workington, Hurren expects a tough test.
“We have had a really positive start,” he continued. “Saturday is going to be really tough against a really big non-league outfit who are always up there competing.
“It’s going to be a really good game for the neutral. We will have a game plan, and I believe with the squad that we have assembled, if we apply ourselves correctly then we can beat anybody in this league.
“So it’s going to be a fantastic game, two big clubs going at it. With the fans, I only believe it is going one way and will get bigger and bigger each week.”
Elsewhere, Kidderminster Harriers will look to maintain their winning start under new boss Adam Murray in the National League North at Worksop Town.
Meanwhile, in the Southern Central Premier, Halesowen Town travel to Real Bedford looking to continue their unbeaten start to the new campaign. Russell Penn’s side came from behind to beat Barwell at The Grove midweek.
Rivals Stourbridge visit St Ives Town hoping to remain unbeaten. Jenson Sumnall‘s 87th-minute equaliser earned Darryl Knights’ side a point against Quorn on Tuesday.
