Walsall defender Evan Weir "not getting carried away" after recent first team break
Evan Weir says he "won't be getting carried away" after breaking into the first team during the opening two games.
The Irishman, who developed in the shadow of Taylor Allen last term, scored his first goal for the club with a stunning free-kick in the Saddlers' 2-1 win over Swindon Town on opening weekend.
He started once again on the left of a back-three, as Walsall fell to a first defeat of the season in a 1-0 loss at Gillingham on Saturday.
Weir acknowledged the importance of having the now departed Allen as a mentor last season, but feels there is still strong competition in the form of Derby County loanee Dan Cox.
