Lawal had to be taken off in the 74th minute before Pearson departed the pitch with cramp just six minutes from time, as Stoke opened the new Championship season with a 3-1 home win over Derby County.

Carlton Morris had given the Rams the lead on the hour-mark, before Lewis Baker equalised for Stoke with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Divin Mubama scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time and Sorba Thomas wrapped up the win with a third four minutes later.

"I think Pearo [Pearson] and Bosun [Lawal] are alright. Pearo was telling me really nonchalantly in the dressing room afterwards, and I'm thinking 'oh no', that he's okay," Potters boss Mark Robins told Stoke Sentinel.
