Non-league round-up: Lichfield City start with defeat
Lichfield City's Northern Premier League bow ended in defeat on home turf at the weekend.
Playing in the Midlands Division of the NPL for the first, they started the season with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Anstey Nomads.
In a new league, after winning the Midland Football League title last time out, they set about a new campaign.
But Tendai Chitiza's goal inside the first half an hour proved to be the only goal of the clash as Nomads triumphed.
They now travel to Bedworth United on Tuesday night, before welcoming Belper Town to their home turf, still seeking that first win.
Sporting Khalsa have taken an early lead at the top of the Northern Premier League West Division after they beat Congleton Town on Saturday.
The 3-1 win was the joint biggest margin of victory at the weekend in the division, but they sit at the top of the pile after one game on goals scored.
The season started in the best possible fashion as Andrew Landell scored in the first minute of the game. Taylor Townsend then went on to add a second in the 16th minute of the clash. The visitors responded as they got one back before the break when Richard Duffy scored just before the half-hour mark.
And it was not until the 82nd minute that Khalsa put the game to bed when late substitute Gurjit Singh added the third of the afternoon.
Darlaston Town also got off to a winning start as they came from behind to beat Trafford on the road.
Darlaston trailed inside the first minute when Matt Davies gave the hosts the lead.
But a brace inside 13 minutes from Harry Chesterston saw the visitors flip the game on its head.
Chasetown travelled to Witton Albion for their opening day fixture, but they were held to a goalless draw.
Stafford Rangers began their league season with a home clash against Avro.
They came out on the wrong side of the result as the visitors took the lead through early first-half substitute Samuel Davidson.
Rangers searched for a way back into the clash, but it was not until the 83rd minute that it was eventually put to bed - with the visitors getting their second of the afternoon.
The referee awarded Avro a penalty, and that was scored by Kyle Hawley, who became the second substitute to net on what was a disappointing afternoon for Stafford.
They now have two away games in succession as they make the trip to Darlaston Town in midweek, they then head to Shropshire next weekend to take on Shifnal Town, who also lost on the opening day of the season.
