It was a piece of transfer news that most Albion fans will have expected but were also dreading at the same time.

On Friday evening it emerged that Albion were in talks with Bologna over a deal for highly rated central defender Torbjorn Heggem - with the Serie A club having tabled a bid in the region of £10m.

Heggem, one of Albion's prized assets having had a stellar season at the club following his £500,000 signing last summer - had been linked with the Italian club earlier in the summer.

The club had reportedly sent scouts to watch him on international duty for Norway.

Reports had cooled but the bid has now arrived in which will come as a blow to Albion fans and Ryan Mason's plans for the season.

However, the bid, the reaction to it and the fact it does represent a really good business deal for Albion, is the harsh reality of where the club is at the moment.

If Albion do sell Heggem for £10m, that is a £9.5m profit  at a time when they aren't completely clear of the PSR and financial fair play problems.
