Romaine Sawyers return on hold as Walsall choose to pursue other targets
Mat Sadler says Walsall are focusing on other targets but has not ruled out revisiting the possibility of signing Romaine Sawyers.
The 33-year-old, who made 161 appearances during his previous spell between 2013 and 2016, has been on trial with the club throughout July.
Sawyers featured five times in total during pre-season in his quest to earn a contract, but Sadler insists that the situation remains very open at this stage.
In the meantime, Walsall will pursue other targets and Sawyers will also weigh up his options before the end of the transfer window.
"There will probably come a natural point [where a decision will be reached] now that the games are going to start," Sadler revealed.
"We've left it open with each other. As it stands, we're trying do a few things that will in part affect that.
"And we've got a budget that we've got to stick it. So I think it's important that we get the work done in that area and then maybe look at Romaine after that.
"That's probably how we've left things with each other. He'll now probably do the same and see what options he has.
"Then maybe we'll come together in a couple of weeks time."
Walsall new boy Jake Hollman raring 'to go'
Sadler has stated his intention of making further additions in the midfield area and has since added Jake Hollman on a free transfer.
Hollman arrived from A-League outfit Macarthur FC earlier this week and has penned a two-year deal with the option of a further year.
While Sadler recognises that there will need to be a period of acclimatisation, he revealed that the Australian under-23 international is already eager to get going.
"He only came over to England on Saturday and came straight to the game at Forest Green," he added.
"The thing I will say about Jake is that he's just desperate to go."
