Aston Villa in contract talks with another key player after midfielder deal
Villa are in talks with Lucas Digne over a contract extension.
The France international’s current deal is due to expire next summer and Unai Emery is keen to keep him on board for the long-term.
Digne, who turned 32 last week, is among Villa’s highest earners and was attracting interest from Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer.
But he is also a player Emery hugely admires and has started the majority of the club’s matches over the past two seasons, despite competition from Alex Moreno and Ian Maatsen.
Emery has previously used Digne as an example to other players of the attitude he wants in his squad.
Negotiations are expected to accelerate now Villa have tied Boubacar Kamara to a long-term deal.
The midfielder this week signed a new contract through to 2030, ending any immediate speculation over his own future.
Kamara was the second Villa player to sign a new contract this summer after defender Tyrone Mings also penned fresh terms last month.
Villa have been training in the USA ahead of the first pre-season friendly of their Stateside trip, which takes place against Eintracht Frankfurt in Louisville on Saturday night.
