The LIV Golf stars battled for the title at JCB Golf and Country Club last year, with the pair level at 13-under-par on the 18th hole of the final round before a three-putt bogey by Hatton supplied Rahm with his maiden LIV Golf win.

Speaking ahead of LIV Golf’s return to the course near Uttoxeter in Staffordshire this week, Rahm revealed how he and his Legion XIII teammate Hatton have become closer.

“I tell you one thing we have learned about each other, is getting to know our taste of wine,” said the Spaniard.

“You get to know what each other likes and that has been a bit more profound.

“Like any friendship, we get to know each other a bit better. It’s a balance though, because we spend a lot of great time together, but we also want to beat each other.”

However, the two-time major champion feels that he is missing out due to his dislike of beer.

Hatton was asked if he had enjoyed any Guinness with Rahm during their time at The Open Championship in Portrush last week.

But, the 33-year-old stated: “He said that he doesn’t like beer!”

Rahm continued: “I tried it last week, I just didn’t like it.

“I truly wish that I did, I feel left out. When you finish playing, you relax and have a beer. I feel like you can’t go to the pub and ask for a glass of wine.”

Rahm and Hatton’s Legion XIII claimed the team title at the previous LIV Golf event at Real Club Valderrama in Spain.

They will also look to go back-to-back this week at JCB.

Hatton added that his and Rahm’s relationship has developed “naturally through spending a lot of time together”.

He continued: “Before we joined LIV, we played a couple of Ryder Cups together, but if it was a regular tournament week it wasn’t like we were playing practice rounds together or going out for dinner.

“To get closer has been fun.”
