West Brom are yet to utilise the loan market so far this transfer window - but are expected to make additions later in the summer.

Albion have made good use of the loan system in recent years - with Mikey Johnston being the prime example.

However, last summer they were less fruitful in this area of the transfer market.

Players like Lewis Dobbin and Uros Racic failed to hit the mark - while Mason Holgate didn't hit the heights in his second loan spell at the club.

This summer, sporting director Andrew Nestor and the Albion owners will be hoping for better.

But so far, Albion have not made any moves in the loan market. However, it is not unsurprising as a lot of the loan movement, especially from Premier League clubs to the Championship, tends to come later in the window.

But how many players will Albion bring in and what are the rules around them?

In recent years, Albion haven't hit their loan quota and in some years they have hardly brought in any loanees at all.

But there is room to make significant additions to squads with loan players.

According to EFL rules, clubs can bring in loan players and can bring in over five, however only five can be included in their matchday squad for any given game.

And of the loan players brought in, they have to register any loan signing as part of their 25 man squad that is submitted to the EFL at the start of every season.

There are also other restrictions on how many players can be registered from one side. The maximum is four but this is a rule that rarely impacts sides.

When will Albion make loan signings?

As stated, a lot of the transfer activity in terms of loans comes later in the transfer window.

However, Albion may soon make a move having been linked with Liverpool young star James McConnell this week.

A handful of other Championship club are set to rival Albion in the race for the highly rated youngster.
