Walsall boss explains Jamille Matt's absence and Romaine Sawyers' situation
Mat Sadler has revealed Jamille Matt has been nursing a minor groin injury, but is hopeful he will be available for Walsall's final pre-season fixture at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.
Matt, who scored 12 times for the Saddlers last term, has not featured since a 3-0 win over Hereford in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Essington on July 12.
The 35-year-old has missed the past three games including Walsall's 3-2 defeat against Championship side Derby County at Bescot on Tuesday night.
Sadler confirmed that Matt has been suffering with a groin problem, but is optimistic that he will comeback into the reckoning when Walsall travel to his former club Forest Green on the weekend.
"We're just easing Jamille through his groin," Sadler said.
"He was a little bit fatigued after probably the workload of pre-season really, but he will hopefully come back into the group for Saturday's game."
Romaine Sawyers, who is on trial with his former club Walsall, featured from the bench for the final 20 minutes.
