Comment: Why a reduced role could bring the best out of Jamille Matt at Walsall

One of Walsall's key priorities this summer was to search for attacking reinforcements.

They arrived in the form of 6ft 4in target man Aaron Pressley and 19-year-old Bournemouth loanee Jonny Stuttle.

Both signings provide Walsall with two completely different options and will naturally lift the burden off Jamille Matt's shoulders.

35-year-old Matt netted 12 times for the Saddlers in League Two last term, with only Nathan Lowe bettering his tally with 15 in the league.

Matt suffered from Walsall's 'overreliance' on him

It was his highest-scoring campaign in three years, but the veteran failed to maintain his early season heights from February onwards.

In fact, Matt netted just three times in the wake of Lowe's recall on January 12 and failed to score in any of his final 12 appearances last term.
