Pears snare loan spinner ahead of derby clash
Worcestershire have signed spinner Bertie Foreman from Sussex on loan ahead of this week’s derby clash with Warwickshire.
The 21-year-old will go straight into the squad for the Rothesay County Championship showdown at Edgbaston, which begins on Tuesday.
Foreman has joined for a two-week period which also includes next week’s match with Hampshire.
The youngster made his first-class debut for Sussex last summer and his performances for the club’s second XI this year caught the attention of Pears head coach, Alan Richardson.
“We’re pleased to welcome Bertie to New Road,” said Richardson. “With a couple of players in the squad unavailable due to injuries and fixture congestion, his arrival will give us some depth.
“This is a great opportunity for Bertie to get valuable game time in a competitive environment and provides us with some options in both departments.
“We look forward to welcoming Bertie into the group and hope he can make a positive contribution.”
The Pears, who sit bottom of the Division One table, are heading into a fortnight which may well prove pivotal to their hopes of beating the drop.
They currently sit 18 points from safety, with five matches of the season left to play.
Hosts Warwickshire, winless in five since beating Yorkshire in early May, are fifth in the table, 23 points behind leaders Surrey.
