Solomon Dacres defiant after huge victory at Wembley

Solomon Dacres insists he always knew what he was capable of after outboxing Vladyslav Sirenko over 10 rounds at Wembley Stadium.

After a damaging first career defeat back in December at the hands of David Adeleye in the first round, the Smethwick fighter bounced back in emphatic style to beat Sirenko in the heavyweight division.

The judges scored the contest 98-92, 99-92 and 99-91 in his favour, defeating a boxer who was unbeaten after 22 professional bouts.

A pumped-up Dacres revealed his loss at the back end of last year was just a blip.

“What can you say, I have bounced back stronger than ever,” he reflected. “I have come back off a first-round defeat, and I have come here against a 22-0 guy, 19 of those coming via knockout.

“Nobody gave me a chance, and I have schooled him on three weeks notice. It shows for itself what I am capable of. I knew it.

“In my last fight, I got clipped. It was just a blip. It happens everywhere in boxing. I am up there with the best of them. I look forward to getting out again and showing what I am capable of even more.”

Dacres says he believes his win over Sirenko has proven that he has a ‘solid chin’ after many may have doubted that back in December.

“I wanted to get straight back out there,” he said. “I wanted to right that wrong. I knew I had been clipped, and I did not show anything that I was capable of.

“I know I have got a solid chin. That guy (Sirenko) had 19 knockouts, and he hit me with some clean shots. They bounced off my chin and came straight back. I have shown some real mettle there.”
