Walsall sat 12 points clear at the League Two summit on January 18 and boasted a 15-point buffer over fourth-place.

A run of three wins from the final 21 games saw them drop into the play-offs, after missing out on promotion in the final minute of the regular season.

They offered hope with a thrilling 4-2 aggregate victory over Chesterfield in the semi-finals, but lost 1-0 against AFC Wimbledon at Wembley in the final

The nature of the collapse has led to criticism of Sadler and owners Trivela, and the Walsall boss admits that there were things they could've done better with.

But he feels overall that the club is in a much stronger position as a whole ahead of the new season.
