'Progressive': What could George Campbell bring to West Brom ahead of move
West Brom are closing in on their latest signing - as they make a move for Montreal defender George Campbell.
Linked with Albion earlier in the window, Campbell, 24, came through at Atlanta before going on to sign for Canadian side Montreal.
All of his career has been spent in the US and his form led to an international call up for the USA national side.
Campbell has been linked with a host of Championship sides throughout the transfer window, with Bristol City credited with strong interest.
But Albion look to have won the race in a deal that is set to cost them £1m.
However, who is Campbell and what will be bring to Albion?
He kicked off his career at Georgia United before joining the academy set up with Atlanta.
From there, he impressed on his professional debut for Atlanta United 2, the reserve side of the club who play in the USL Championship.
From there, he signed a homegrown player deal for the club in July 2019, before he moved to Montreal in 2022 for the best part of $200,000.
He has made around 70 appearances for the club so far.
For many Albion fans and pundits, Campbell will be something of an unknown.
But there has been some insight into Campbell and what he can bring since the news emerged that Albion are finalising a deal.
MLS expert Jeremy Peterman has stated that Albion could be set to bag one of the bargains of the summer.
Writing on X, he said: “Campbell is physically ready for the Championship and adds another dimension to WBA’s CB room: outstanding ball-carrying.
"He instantly becomes the most progressive CB that the Baggies have at their disposal. Great pickup, expecting fee to be in the £1M range.”
