International Saddlers: Brazilian Kleberton's emotional journey with Walsall

Football is dominated by the action on the pitch, the words said off it and the stars that adorn it.

Yet it's soul is often symbolised by the supporters; both home and abroad.

In 2018, Kleberton Felix from Brazil embarked on his own journey with the Saddlers and has not looked back since.

But Walsall has been more than just his team over the past seven years, it's been a salvation amid such heartbreaking personal trauma.

"In my moments of pain after losing two sons one year after the other, following the Saddlers and posting news about the club was an escape valve for a pain that was difficult to overcome," Felix revealed.

"Walsall is part of my life, a happy part. My beginnings as a Walsall fan are a mix of situations.

"I've always liked English football, and after years of supporting Corinthians here in Brazil, experiencing glories and sorrows, I realised that for me it was something superficial.

"I wanted something deeper and more intense in football. That's when I saw some pages on my old Twitter account with Brazilian profiles who supported English clubs, and I wanted to do something similar.

"There were similarities between Walsall and a defunct team from my city in terms of the colours and the fact that it is a smaller town. I started researching the club, its fans, its history.

"All of this happened unpretentiously and without knowing that after so many years, I am still completely in love with this club."

In total, Walsall has been home to just four Brazilians over the course of its 136-year history: Bica, Herivelto, Marcelo and Junior.

The latter left a lasting impression, scoring 16 goals during his solitary season at Bescot, which saw him strike up a memorable partnership with club legend Jorge Leitao in 2002-03.

On the contributions of his fellow compatriots, Felix added: "The Jorge Leitao and Junior duo was simply fantastic, even though I didn't see them play live.

"Just seeing some of the moves they made together says it all. It's a shame Junior didn't make the most it and stay with the club. I really like my friend Herivelto too and thanks to the club I'm now friends with him.

"He deserved to have had more opportunities at Walsall, and as a person, he likes the club and still remembers the moments he had in England with joy."

Walsall have spent six of the seven seasons Felix has supported the club in the EFL's basement division, but that has not affected his appetite whatsoever.

"Watching games here at home is usually pretty tense.

There were several times when my wife asked me to choose: Walsall or marriage (he laughs)?

"I'm still with both to this day and she's more used to it now. Next season, I plan on buying the season pass and not missing a single game.

"Walsall is my life."
