Mat Sadler backs Walsall pair to step-up next season
Mat Sadler has backed Evan Weir to "stake his claim" at Walsall following the departure of star man Taylor Allen.
Allen departed Bescot after three years at the club to join Wycombe Wanderers in League One.
The 25-year-old made 119 appearances for the Saddlers in all competitions - registering 14 goals and 11 assists.
He was named the club's Player of the Year last term and was also included in the PFA League Two team of the year, after netting 11 goals and setting up eight more in 57 matches.
Weir, who arrived from Drogheda United in 2024, developed in Allen's shadow during his debut campaign in England.
In total, Weir totted up four assists in 22 matches for the Saddlers and Sadler is confident that he is capable of making the step-up.

"Without doubt [Weir can succeed Allen]," Sadler declared. "Evan waited patiently while Taylor showed what he was all about last season, but Evan has an incredible left foot, and it's a chance for him to stake his claim.
