Fereday has a dog that can Makeadifference
Monmore trainer Chris Fereday is excited for what is to come as Makeadifference looks to continue living up to his name over the sprint trip.
Makeadifference is in action this evening having become one of the most consistent performers over two bends at the Wolverhampton track in recent months.
Part-owned by Fereday – based in Walsall – along with Mr G Duncan and Mr S Gray, the August 2022 dog was purchased from last year’s Monmore auction and has won seven of his last 12 appearances across both graded and open races.
Success tonight would also make it four successive graded victories on the spin.
“He’s really come into form and been fantastic for us as of late,” said Fereday. “We bought him in the sales last year for a modest price and originally looked for him to go over the 480m distance, but he didn’t quite stay, so we took him down to the two bends instead and he’s never looked back.
“We took him to Swindon recently and he won an Open race there which was great, and we’re also thinking of taking him on the road for Opens at both Nottingham and Sheffield as he should be able to run those tracks well.
“There’s due to be a Category Three sprint competition starting at Monmore next week, so the plan is to for that and see how he goes.
“Hopefully, he runs well tonight and carries on his form going into next weekend. He’s a real pleasure to train.”
Tonight’s test for Makeadifference sees him go out in race 11 at 9.23pm against kennelmate Bandanna Bono, who has looked sharp over four bends but steps down in trip for this one.
Richie Taberner has Alien Bolt and Aero Rolex going for glory in the D1 while Patricia Cowdrill – who has been enjoying a nice number of graded winners – boasts Dhustone Carmel and Specific Role.Makeadifference, meanwhile, is among the 50 greyhounds Monmore have featured in their upcoming ‘Monmore Superstars’ trading cards set.
Packs of five cards will soon be available to purchase from the stadium with all profits from the venture going to Monmore’s partner charity, Greyhound Trust Wolverhampton to support their brilliant work looking after retired greyhounds before they find their forever homes.
