Walsall 2025/26 fixtures: Swindon at home up first for Mat Sadler's men

Walsall's first competitive fixture since suffering defeat in the League Two play-off final will see them begin the new season at home against Swindon Town.

The 2025/26 EFL fixtures have been released and Walsall will kick-off at Bescot on Saturday, August 2.

A week later, Walsall make the long trip to Gillingham, before travelling to newly-crowned National League champions Barnet on August 19.

They will conclude August with back-to-back home games against Grimsby Town and Salford City followed by an away trip to MK Dons.

The Saddlers welcome Chesterfield to Bescot on September 6 (internationals permitted) in a repeat of their thrilling League Two play-off semi-final tie last term.

Mat Sadler's men will also face two trips to Lancashire against Fleetwood Town and Accrington Stanley respectively either side of a visit from Tranmere Rovers.

In October, Isaac Hutchinson will return to Bescot for the first time since his departure in 2024 when recently-relegated Bristol Rovers come to WS1.

There will be another reunion later in the month when Jack Earing travels to the West Midlands with his new Barrow side, while Walsall visit Cheltenham Town, managed by ex-boss Michael Flynn, on October 25.

December begins with a midweek away day at newly-promoted Oldham Athletic, before they renew rivalries against Shrewsbury Town at Bescot on December 13.

It will be the first time Walsall have faced the Shropshire side in a league fixture since a goalless draw condemned the Saddlers' to relegation from League One in 2019.

Over the festive period, Notts County away is the pre-Christmas billing followed by successive home games against Crewe Alexandra on Boxing Day and Oldham three days later.

On New Year's Day, Walsall visit Cambridge United for the first time since 2021 following their relegation from League One last season.

Walsall host Fleetwood Town in the first fixture at Bescot in 2026, as they look to avenge their 6-2 drubbing in the previous campaign.

They also face trips to Bristol Rovers, Tranmere and Chesterfield in the first month of the year, with further treks to Salford City and Grimsby Town to follow in February.

The Saddlers conclude February with a local derby against Shrewsbury in the reverse fixture at Croud Meadow, before visiting fellow local rivals Crewe Alexandra on March 14.

On Easter Weekend, Walsall play host to Gillingham on Good Friday and travel to the County Ground to face Swindon on Easter Monday.

The run-in comprises of home fixtures against Cheltenham and Harrogate either side of an arduous trip to Barrow at Holker Street.

They will conclude the season away from home for the third season in a row against Bromley at the Hayes Lane Stadium on May 2.
