Darts round-up: First WDF title for O'Connor

Ryan O’Connor claimed his maiden World Darts Federation title by beating 17-year-old Taylor McGuckian 5-1 in the final of the Danube Classic.

O’Connor defeated Levante Sarai in the semi-final, while McGuckian put out Laszlo Kadar. Victory also means O’Connor will now be at the World Masters in Hungary.

Kings Head’s Owen Maiden produced four maximums and a 101 average in the West Midlands Super League but couldn’t stop his side going down 4-1 to leaders, Staffs Knot. Jamie Hughes, Jack Aldridge, Stephen Jones and Martin Price all won.

Gilberts B had Kye Simmonds, Dave Lopez, Nicky Devlin and Rob Pitt to thank in beating Gilberts A 4-1, while Dudley Ex had a great 4-1 victory at Junction A. Cameron Baird, Mark Stanaway, Glen McGrandle and Ian Jones did the damage.

Townsend A’s former PDC star, Jason Lowe, made it consecutive Black Country Superleague Series titles by defeating teammate Ian Townsend 4-3 in a gripping series two final.

Lowe ousted George Willetts 4-3 in a semi-final, while Townsend beat out Harry Williams 4-0.

The Tettenhall Wednesday League knockout cup’s first legs brought some close matches.

Dog & Partridge B had a 4-3 victory at Claregate thanks to Dave Lucas, Mark Frumenzi, Craig Locker and Connor Lucas.

Codsall Bull held a 4-3 lead over Junction A with Neil Baugh, Dave Rowsell, Liam Baker and Dave Smith all winning.

McGhees defeated Moreton Arms 4-3 courtesy of Louis Burley, Ryan Bourne, Charlie Burley and Adam Bolger and Junction B defeated Red Lion 5-2.

Opening games in the Wolverhampton Tuesday League saw Golden Lion A come from 3-1 down to defeat Pheasant 4-3 as Addison James, Nicky Devlin, Paul Harrison and Chris Powell did the damage.

Wednesfield Legion had a good 4-3 win at Gilberts A leaving Russ Smith, Steve Potts, Steve Jones and John Jordan victorious.

Dog and Partridge B defeated Woodfield 4-3 thanks to Richard Newey, Mark Frumenzi, Mike Matthews and Tony Durnall.

Pheasant’s Scott Speakman clinched the Wednesfield Sunday Average Winners knockout, defeating Glassy Junction’s Sean Bastable 2-1 in the final.

Speakman ousted Pat Garner 2-1 in semi-finals, while Bastable defeated the league’s wins-leader Simon Pritchard 2-0.

Week one of the Coseley Friday League Group A saw The Royal beat Hurst Hill 6-1 and Horseley Tavern lose 6-1 to Lower Gornal A.

In Group B, Wednesfield Cons A defeated Grapes 5-2, while Allens A fell 4-3 to Wednesfield Cons B.

Group C’s Gornal Labour lost 6-1 to Hotshots A and Parkes Hall beat Lower Gornal B 4-3, while in Group D, Hotshots B beat Darlaston Cons 5-2 and Netherton CC lost 4-3 to Baggeridge.
