New boss Ian Long has continued his Rushall Olympic rebuild with the capture of his former midfielder Jack Burgess.

Burgess is a familiar face at Dales Lane having spent a brief period at the club early in the 2022/23 campaign but more recently played under new boss Long at Walsall Wood.

He also counts Sutton Coldfield Town and Stafford Rangers among his former sides.

Long said: “Jack is a player I had at Walsall Wood before moving on to Stafford Rangers and Stratford Town,” said the Gaffer. “He really suits the way we play and technically he’s brilliant.

“He’s also got bags of energy, is a very mobile centre midfielder and has a tremendous attitude.”

The Walsall club are preparing for the new Northern Premier campaign following relegation from National League North.

And Long has also brought another former player back to the club in the shape of Sam Unitt.

Unitt, a 20-year-old midfielder, came through the youth ranks at Rushall and has also featured for Walsall Wood, Stourbridge and Chasetown.

Fellow step three outfit Stourbridge, of the Southern Premier Central, gave their preparations a big boost with a new deal for last season's top scorer Ethan Freemantle.

The former Kidderminster Harriers frontman, 25, was a big hit in his debut full campaign at the War Memorial Ground and has committed to new boss Darryl Knights for next term.

The Glassboys' league rivals Halesowen Town have bolstered their ranks with the addition of attack-minded midfielder Kyle Finn from Tamworth.

Finn, 26, netted 24 goals in 81 games in three seasons at The Lamb.

Full-back stalwart Jak Hickman has extended his stay at the club, which began in 2023. Goalkeeper Gael Mfuamba has committed for next term after featuring for Tipton Town last season.
