Walsall youngster pens new two-year deal
Walsall youngster Ronan Maher has signed a new two-year deal at Bescot.
The 20-year-old midfielder went out on loan twice last season having a spell at Tamworth, where he played 14 times for the Lambs. He registered three goals and assists during his stint.
He also went out to play for Rushall Olympic where he scored four times and got six assists for the Pics - their two-year stay in the National League North ended as they were relegated.
Maher, who has come through the academy at Bescot, has made 29 appearances for the Saddlers and he is delighted to extend his stay.
“I am over the moon,” he said. “I have been here since I was 12 years old so I am carrying on now for another two years, which is good so I am happy.
“I am grateful to the gaffer, Ben and Nick for sorting out the contract so I am happy to be here.
“I have gone out on loan twice to Rushall Olympic and Tamworth, I have learnt my trade, got over 70 senior appearances now so I think now definitely this season I am ready to make my mark in the first team and make a real impact.
“The loan spells were really beneficial. Rushall, when I was 18 two years ago, getting 25/30 games there was good and then obviously Tamworth last season in the National League, which is a good league, and playing a good amount of games there and doing well as well, it has really given me a boost.”
