The Wales international has spent the last three seasons with Rangers but is expected to make a move back south of the border, with the Baggies one of several clubs reported to be interested.

Coventry and newly-promoted Wrexham, Lawrence’s hometown club, are also believed to be monitoring the situation.

Lawrence, a Manchester United academy product, has made nearly 250 appearances in the Championship, the bulk of those coming during a five-year spell with Derby.

Much of Albion’s business this summer is likely to be dictated by outgoings but they have room to strengthen in attacking areas after Grady Diangana’s departure on a free transfer.

Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland is another player of interest, with the Scotland international due to decide his future in the coming weeks. The 29-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the month.

Preparations for the new season at Albion, meanwhile, will move up a gear next week when new boss Ryan Mason arrives for his first full day at the club’s training ground.

The 34-year-old has been busy making plans for his first senior job in management, alongside assistants Nigel Gibbs and Sam Pooley.

Albion’s players, barring those who were on international duty earlier this month, are due to report back on Wednesday, June 25, the first time many of them will meet the new head coach face-to-face. Fixtures for the new Championship season will be released the following day.
