Hednesford Town have continued their strong summer recruitment drive with the signing of defender Ryan Wynter.

The 31-year-old is joining the Pitmen from Halesowen Town, where he captained the team last season.

A product of Stoke’s academy, the centre-back previously had spells at Stafford Rangers and Chasetown and Hednesford boss Gavin Hurren sees him as a key addition, ahead of the club’s return to the third tier of non-league football.

Hurren said: “Ryan’s been one of the most consistent and commanding defenders at Step 3 in recent years – and for me, he’s more than capable of playing Step 2 comfortably.

“He was a leader and fan favourite at Halesowen and when we knew he was available we moved quickly. He’s a local lad, knows this level inside out, and understands what this club means to people.

“We had to fight off competition from clubs above to get it done but I’m absolutely delighted we did. He’s strong, athletic, and brings the kind of quality and character we want in the dressing room. He ticks every box.”

Wynter is excited by the prospect of joining Hednesford, who won promotion from the Northern League West play-offs last month.

He said: “The club is making huge moves and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

“Our job is to bring success on the pitch, and I know with the team that has been put together, along with the support behind us, we can make that happen.”

“I’ve played for some big clubs at this level, and I take pride in how I conduct myself on the pitch. I’ll wear the Hednesford badge with pride and do my job – giving those in front of me the confidence to go and win games.”

Hednesford are not the only non-league club making moves, with Stourbridge agreeing a deal to sign attacking midfielder Jack Concannon.

Rushall Olympic, relegated from National League North last season, have confirmed the departure of striker Luke Benbow, with the latter joining Bromsgrove Sporting.
