West Midlands football club confirms takeover talks

Dudley Town have confirmed they are in talks over a potential takeover.

The Midland League club posted a statement on social media in response to what it described as “speculation surrounding the future of the club”.

It confirmed discussions with an “undisclosed party” were ongoing but at an early stage.

The statement read: “The club is aware of speculation surrounding the future of the club and understands the interest this generates.

“The football club is currently in dialogue with an undisclosed party regarding a potential takeover. These discussions are ongoing, and while they are at a preliminary stage, both parties are engaging constructively. 

“Further information will be shared in due course, as and when appropriate.”

News of the possible takeover comes amid the latest bid to find the club a permanent home, now 40 years after they last played in the town.

The Robins, who have led a largely nomadic existence since being forced to leave the Sports Ground due to subsidence. They currently play outside Dudley borough, at Sporting Khalsa’s ground in Willenhall.

Council leader Patrick Harley recently claimed a site for a new stadium had been identified, while MP Sonia Kumar launched a petition calling for somewhere to be found in the town.

The Robins finished seventh in this season’s Premier Division of the Midland League, before last week winning the JW Hunt Cup.
