Superstar Hawk flying back into action at Monmore

Trainer Richie Taberner has hailed Monmore superstar Hawk as a ‘pleasure to train’ as she returns to Open action this evening.

Hawk, owned by Fantastic Foxes, was voted Bitch of the Year by the Monmore Owners’ Association for 2024 having won 14 races throughout the year.

Most of those were in graded action but the March 2021 stayer has also excelled in the Open scene – winning a Category Three 630m competition at Monmore in November – and tonight presents an opportunity to impress again.

She steps back up in class after an impressive May which saw her win three of four graded outings, claiming victories over both four and six bends.

Taberner is excited to see how she gets on in the Ladbrokes.com 630 at 7.39pm.

“She’s an absolute pleasure to train. She doesn’t tend to be the quickest out of the traps, but once she gets going on that back straight, she takes some stopping,” said Taberner. “She had a brilliant year in 2024, we couldn’t have asked for more from her, and we gave her a little winter break to get her ready to go again this year.

“She’s won four times since coming back and we’re looking forward to seeing how she does back in Open class, over her favourite trip.

“The owner, Max Moore is very supportive and always here to cheer her on from the terraces, so hopefully he has something to smile about again. She’ll certainly give it her all.”

Standing in Hawk’s way of victory are kennelmates Camp Parachute and Droopys Maximus, while visiting trainers Rose Draper (Sheffield), Ted Soppitt (Newcastle) and Dougie Butler (Perry Barr) boast Distant Flow, Sunnyside Broxi and Inspector respectively.

Also on tonight’s card are two four-bend Open races, with Kim Billingham-Hine’s consistent performer Away Jazz involved in race four at 7.22pm.

Pat Doocey’s Hilton Wolf looks to follow up some stellar recent graded performances in race two at 6.48pm.
